Douglas James Vail is a filmmaker and storyteller whose work explores themes of meaning, sacrifice, and faith. His background in narrative filmmaking led him into a deeper exploration of the philosophical and historical questions behind belief. The Question Beneath Everything is the result of that investigation. ​

Opening From the Book​
The book begins with a moment from space exploration that changed how humanity saw itself. On Christmas Eve 1968, the astronauts of Apollo 8 orbited the far side of the Moon and saw something no human had ever seen before — the Earth rising above the lunar horizon. The image later known as Earthrise showed our entire world as a fragile blue sphere floating in the darkness of space.

From that moment emerged a profound question:
